Do you have questions? I know my kids do!! Most frequently they are questions like, "Where are my shoes?" "Did you sign my homework?" "What's for dinner?" "Can I eat something else?"
Ben's favorite question is "Do I hafta eat this?" I don't know how we ended up with such a picky kid. The other two went through some stages, but Ben has settled down in a PBJ-loving zone and is not inclined to move. Last night he was upset because I used the butter knife to spread his peanut butter and that made the sandwich inedible. Ken told him that peanut butter is made with butter. "That's why it's got 'butter' in the name." Then Ben picked up the jar of peanut butter and started reading the ingredients. LOL! We both almost lost it at that point. He's too smart for his own good. For the record, Ken managed to point out that butter is made with oil and salt, and so is peanut butter. Ben finished the sandwich.
We've got some other questions too, though. One morning Frances asked why Henry had yelled at her about something that seemed pretty minor. The answer involved an explanation of the stress Henry has been under before reporting a school issue. In trying to deal with things himself, I'm pretty sure his poor brain was so fried by the time he got home that blinking in his general direction would have set him off. That was the main answer, but the other answer was simply "grace." As in, Henry is dealing with something kinda tough right now. We're working on it and he's gonna be okay, but right now he needs grace.
Henry's good at asking questions. A few weeks ago, as we were driving home from somewhere, he asked me, "Mommy, was God born? How did He get to be? Was He always just there?" Well, dang! That's a heavy question for a nice drive around town!! I answered the best I could, and explained that with faith you will always get to a point where you can't just explain something. That's the whole point of faith. You just have to believe it in your heart.
Jeremy Camp's new album "The Answer" has been getting some major play time in my van lately. The title song may not give answers to questions about how peanut butter is made or why some kids are bullies, but it gives a great answer to many of life's deeper issues.
On second though, when I'm frazzled at the fourth dinner in a row that my some has refused, I need Jesus. And when my kids are getting picked on and stressed out, I remind them that they need Jesus (and so do those bullies). When we start to ponder the intricacies of creation or appreciate the beauty of the world around us, well, Jesus is a pretty good answer there too.
This is a great album. It's quality music that will remind you throughout the day that Jesus is the answer, that you are greatly loved, and that we are called to share this love with those who we come into contact with throughout the day.

Mary & Martha with Julie {Review and Giveaway}
There's a Bible story I hear frequently that always makes me laugh. The story of Jesus' visit to the home of his friends Mary and Martha has some great lessons in it. In the story, Mary sits at the feet of Jesus listening and learning while Martha flits around the house, presumably vacuuming and making sure her kids flushed the toilet last time they were in there (or whatever the first century equivalent is). Martha complains that Mary is letting her do all the work, but Jesus says that Mary has made the better choice.
I've heard plenty of homilies on this story. People are always talking about how they wish they could be more like Mary in all kinds of different scenarios. The thing is, I've never sided with Martha in all the times I've heard the story. I'm not saying that to prove what a great Christian I am. It's my proof of what a horrible housekeeper I am! It wouldn't take Jesus coming over to my house to distract me from cleaning. Pretty much anything would qualify!
So when my Julie became a consultant for Mary & Martha, and invited me to a party, I grinned a little. I love going to Julie's house. Our kids love playing together and there are even times when they leave us alone long enough to have a (short) conversation. I also know that it is totally Julie's fault that I got hooked on jewelry by attending parties at her house, but I totally forgive her for that!
Mary & Martha is a home-based business founded by Hallmark subsidiary Day Spring in 2006. Their goal is to provide beautiful, easy ways to entertain. They sell home decor items as well as kitchen and tableware, gifts, stationery and items for kids. Their model is based around the home party that has been so successful for Tupperware and Mary Kay, but they also allow online orders and Facebook parties which reflects the reality of our times.
I am excited to introduce you to their products today and to help Julie get her business started. You can browse through the catalog here and see what you think. (Please note, visiting this site first will add a cookie that allows you to view the other links on this page.) There are so many amazing pieces here!
How about this cute 3-D puzzle for your kids?
I love these jute placemats that remind me of the little things in life.
This quote from Micah 6:8 has been a favorite of mine since high school as it was a sub-theme of many retreats I was involved in.
I really love their bakeware items. They have disposable plates as well as cupcake liners, loaf pans and bundt pans. How awesome would it be to show up at a party with a fresh loaf of bread you baked yourself in one of these beautiful liners? And then you don't have to worry about getting your pan back or washing it afterwards!
If you've stuck around this far, I've got some great news! Julie has offered to give one of my readers a $30 gift certificate to Mary & Martha. Just enter this Rafflecopter giveaway and cross your fingers!
a Rafflecopter giveaway
Or if you can't wait, you can go over to her catalog page and order something right now. Additionally, if you head over to Julie's Facebook page and schedule a Facebook party, mention this post. Julie will give you an extra 15% off your party order, in addition to the regular hostess benefits. But wait! There's more!! Julie also has a promotion on her Facebook page right now. When she hits 50 likes, she going to be giving away some Mary & Martha coffee.
Phew! That's a lot of awesome all in one place!! So what do you see that you'd love to have??

It's My Blog-i-versary! I'll Party if I Want To {Giveaway}
Way back in 2007, I loved reading blogs. I spent nap times at the daycare where I worked reading blogs and making lesson plans. There were a few I checked on every day and some I just tripped across once or twice. I started noticing the same names cropping up over and over in people's comments. I realized that these people were forming friendships and meeting new people all through the magic of blogging. Also, every time I wanted to leave a comment of my own, I had to skip over the section where you could put in your blog address if you wanted one.
It got me thinking about starting my own blog. I figured, I like to talk, and blogging is just like talking, only in written form, right? Plus, I'll be honest, I had dreams of getting insanely popular and having people all over the place think that I am supremely cool.
It got me thinking about starting my own blog. I figured, I like to talk, and blogging is just like talking, only in written form, right? Plus, I'll be honest, I had dreams of getting insanely popular and having people all over the place think that I am supremely cool.
One December day, instead of doing whatever cleaning or decorating I should have been doing, I sat down and created this blog. I didn't spend much time coming up with a really creative name or an amazing layout, I just put up a picture of Frances and Henry, wrote a few sentences and then sat back to wait for the adoring fans to show up.
That's obviously not what happened, but little by little i got to know people and started interacting with them. I shared my posts with family and friends and I entered the address in for that section when I commented on someone else's blog.
Along the way I {mostly} dropped the dream of hitting it big and really started enjoying myself. I remember the first time someone I had never heard of commented on my blog and how cool I felt. I remember the first time I was speaking with a person face to face and they brought up something I had written on my blog. I remember the first time someone quoted me to me. All very awesome feelings!
I have gotten so much out of blogging. It has been a place for me to share my life with family and friends. It has been a way for me to think "out loud" and figure out a puzzling situation. It has been a way for me to keep track of things that have happened in the past and to have a permanent record of how our life has changed and grown.
This week is a time for me to give back. My actual anniversary is coming up on Saturday, but that's not a day I normally post, so I am dedicating this whole week to celebrating right here on my blog. Today, I have this little walk down memory lane followed by an awesome giveaway. Tuesday, in typical 10 on Tuesday style, I'd like to share my 10 favorite things about blogging. On Wednesday, I am opening the comments up to a free for all of sorts. I invite you to leave a question for me. I will answer as many as possible (and appropriate) on Friday as my own little version of Ask Away Friday. That leaves Thursday for my first ever link up. I invite you all to leave a link to your own favorite post from your own blog (if you have one) or someone else's blog (if you don't have your own).
And now for the giveaway: One lucky person will win this amazing jewelry set from Premier Jewelry (earrings, bracelet and necklace) called "Seaside," a $50 Discover gift card to use anywhere that accepts Discover Card, and a fun craft kit for a special kid in your life. This is over a $150 value!! I call it a "Night on the Town" giveaway! You can get all dressed up with your fancy jewelry, leave a fun craft kit for the babysitter to have to deal with, and go out for dinner. *Date not included* Good luck and don't forget to check back the rest of this week for other celebratory stuff!

Jammy Jams: Once Upon a Rhyme {Review & Giveaway}
Ken makes fun of me a lot because I sing along to everything, but I cannot tell you the name of any song, singer, or band to save my life. Actually, we tested that statement this past weekend and found that I do pretty well with hair bands from the 80s. We've all got to have a skill, I guess.
When I was a kid I used to get in trouble at the dinner table because I would hum all the time. I couldn't help it! Songs just get stuck in my head. To this day, I still annoy people by humming. I'm not even conscious of it. And what's worse, these days I tend to be humming the theme song to one of my kids' TV shows or a song I've downloaded for them.
Enter this great series of kids' music: Jammy Jams! The creators have taken your favorite music and made it appropriate for your children! The songs are recorded using the soft, soothing sounds of vibraphone, marimba, piano, blocks, and more. They are great for naptime, bedtime or just to listen to. And the best part is that when I get these songs stuck in my head, at least I am humming adult-appropriate music!
I was given a copy of their hip hop album, "Once Upon a Rhyme" to review. It includes the folowing songs:
1. Hey Ya (originally by Outkast)
2. California Love (originally by 2Pac) 3. The Real Slim Shady (originally by Eminem)
2. California Love (originally by 2Pac) 3. The Real Slim Shady (originally by Eminem)
4. Gangsta's Paradise (originally by Coolio)
5. Girls (originally by Beastie Boys)
6. Rock Box (originally by Run-D.M.C)
7. Summertime (originally by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince)
8. Regulate (originally by Warren G)
9. Big Pimpin (originally by Jay-Z)
10. Nuthin' But A "G" Thang (originally by Dr. Dre)
10. Nuthin' But A "G" Thang (originally by Dr. Dre)
I am, admittedly, not a huge hip hop fan, but even I recognize these songs. (I couldn't tell you the names or artists in a blind sound test, but I could sure sing along with them!!) They are recognizable as the original songs, but sound much more soothing and child-friendly in these arrangements.
I am adding them to my kids' nighttime playlist and I know I will get a little smile each time the sounds of Coolio or DJ Jazzy Jeff lull my children to sleep. Would you like to win a copy for yourself? You can enter here:

You can also connect with Jammy Jams in the following ways:Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, or Pinterest.

Three Truths and a Lie
We used to play this game in youth group where each person had to introduce themselves by giving two truths and a lie about themselves and the other people in the group would try to guess the lie. Hilarity ensued while discussing the things people said about themselves and which of them could possibly be true and which one was the lie. It was a fun way to get to know each other. Some years we even had people who would list the same three things they had listed the year before and people still couldn't remember which one was the lie!
So today, in the name of getting to know each other, I present three truths and a lie. Three of the following items are true and one of them is a lie that I made up. See if you can guess which is the lie!!
So today, in the name of getting to know each other, I present three truths and a lie. Three of the following items are true and one of them is a lie that I made up. See if you can guess which is the lie!!
- My younger brother and I are only 364 days apart. He was born the day before my first birthday and I call him "the gift I was never allowed to return."
- When I was younger I wanted to be a meteorologist. Then one day a tropical storm came through my town as a result of a hurricane and really scared me. I have been afraid of weather ever since!
- I like most animals but I am terrified of birds. Especially when swarms of them all take off from the same tree at the same time. I've had to pull over on the interstate because of it.
- I once caught a 30+ pound salmon while fishing on vacation with my family. Then I cleaned it, gutted it and filleted it. Oh, and ate it! Yum!

Woolzies Dryer Balls: {Review & Giveaway}
*I was not financially compensated for this post. I received a sample
for review purposes. The opinions are completely my own based on my
experience.*
I've posted on laundry before: specifically how much I love it!! (NOT!) However, it is a necessity in our house and I am usually the one doing it. My goal is to do one load a day. I try to start one in the mornings before I go to work, fold it on my lunch break and put it away in the evening. It doesn't actually happen that way, but that's the goal!
A few weeks ago I was contacted by the people at Woolzies to do a giveaway. I've passed on a few other giveaways because they didn't seem to fit in here, but laundry is definitely something I know about! They sent me a box of their dryer balls to try out and blog about.
Woolzies dryer balls are handmade from New Zealand wool. They claim to help reduce static and drying time for 1,000 loads of laundry. They are also good for the environment and do not introduce harsh chemicals into your laundry. They are unscented and hypoallergenic.
When I got them in the mail, I was actually a little bit excited to do some laundry so I could try them out. I had a few questions I wanted to answer for myself:
Firstly, my clothes are not static-y. Nothing has been sticking together and I haven't been getting shocked. I heard a few crackles when I shook out a shirt; but when I tried to shock myself while holding it, nothing happened. So I will say that these do work to reduce static.
Do they help with dry time? I don't have a good way to assess this because I am not typically home to see how long the dryer runs. I have a setting on my dryer that says "more dry." The theory is that the dryer senses the humidity inside the machine and stops when the clothing is dry. I will say that my clothes have been dry and fluffy each time I have gone to get them. Sometimes, previously, when I would retrieve a load it would be not quite dry.
As for the sound? They are actually quieter than the other, plastic dryer balls I have used before. Plus, these are a bit heavier and tend not to get lost inside the laundry. With the plastic kind, I was constantly missing them as I put the laundry in a basket, so I couldn't use them for the next load. Then, when they got upstairs the kids found them and used them as toys. The Woolzies dryer balls, however, don't cause that problem.
I left the box on top of the dryer and as I put laundry into the basket, I can easily fish out the dryer balls and put them in the box. Then they are easily put back in the dryer for the next load. I haven't lost one yet!
If you'd like to know more about Woolzies dryer balls, I'd be happy to answer your questions about my experience. You can also see the FAQ at their website or buy them on their website.

- Do they work?
- Will my clothes be static-y?
- Will my laundry get dry faster?
- Are they loud, clunking around in the dryer?
