Repeat Day: Repeat Day

There are a few moments I'd be happy to completely wipe from my memory. I'm sure we all have those types in our heads. Today is about a different type of memory. The moments we would gladly live over again if possible. Those make for a much more uplifting list, don't ya think!

  1. Ken and I met while we were both in high school. We were friends for about 3-4 years before we ever thought about dating. I remember sitting in the back of a car and chatting with friends. I feel like the "do you like him like him?" conversation was straight out of a sitcom, but when we discovered that we both wanted to be more than friends, I was ecstatic!
  2.  When Ken and I were planning our wedding, we discussed our vows a few times. Neither of us had any strong desire to re-write anything major. And starting from scratch was completely out of the question. One thing we never discussed, though, was memorizing them. So imagine my surprise when in the middle of our wedding, the priest stepped aside and Ken starting reciting his vows to me from memory. In talking about it later, we discovered that the priest had stepped out of the way so people could see us better. His plan had been to feed us the lines from off to the side. Ken, however, panicked a little and just started talking. He said them perfectly and then I took a deep breath and did the same. It wasn't how we planned, but it worked out perfectly, and I wish I could relive that moment again!
  3. We were living a working in Charlottesville shortly after getting married. I was a December graduate which made getting a teaching job complicated. Adding in the move on top of that, I hadn't picked up my own classroom yet, and was working as a part-time aid/part-time sub in the school system there. Then I got the offer to come back to Harrisonburg! In the same school where I had done my student teaching and already knew people. It was an amazing feeling to be offered that position!
  4. Ken and I were going out for his birthday. I hadn't been feeling well for a while, but I had recently discovered why that was! Getting to tell Ken he was going to be a father was a great birthday gift, dontcha think?!
  5. There's never been much planning in our "family planning," and we left things up to God's timing with all three kids. Henry was the only one where I remember saying, "Let's have another baby!" The other two were more of a surprise. But planned or not, finding out we were about to even the teams was a great day!
  6. Benjamin was the biggest surprise of all. We found out we were pregnant with him, things were really stressful. Money was tight, jobs were aggravating, and we just didn't think it was a good time to have another baby. In the end, though, those stressors really brought us closer and when Benjamin was born, our family felt very complete.
  7. I hope it's not cheating to lump all three kids' deliveries together! My labors were fairly easy for all three of them. It was getting to labor that was frustrating (my 3 kids were a total of 20 days late!). Once I was in the hospital, things went rather smoothly. I was even a bit surprised with how well things turned out. After Frances was born, the nurses asked me if I needed anything and the only thought I had was "I need a sandwich!"
  8. I quit the job I had before my current one on a whim. Well, not really a whim, because that sounds too...whimsical. I quit on a lark because I was fed up with drama and whining. The problem is that we were already pretty broke and I had no idea what to do next. I really prayed over it. I prayed over the newspaper classifieds for days. And then I just happened to see a job posting for the College of Education at JMU. I figured there was no way I was qualified, as I had no office experience, but I applied anyway. You know the outcome, but the day I got this position was phenomenal!
  9. I've loved reading all my life and I've loved writing on this blog, but I never expected to see my own name in print. Then I was offered the opportunity to be published in an anthology: The Mother of all Meltdowns. It was surreal when the book was released and I saw my own name and read my own story within the pages of an actual book!
  10. For my last entry, I can't really pick out a specific memory I'd like to relive, but I do wish I could repeat just one moment with each of my grandparents. There are so many things that I wish I'd asked or said or did when they were here on earth, and now I don't have that chance anymore. I'd really love just one more chance to spend a day with each of them.
Do you have a moment you'd like to repeat for Repeat Day?

  3. Beautiful moments in your life to savor. I think so much of my grandparents and parents who have passed on and how wonderful it would be to just repeat any given moment with them. Ahhh - the memories.

Great list. It's so much fun to relive all of those moments that make up the brightest times in our lives. My kids were IVF so although they weren't a surprise, finding out that we'd succeeded were amazing moments for us as well.

  6. I love your spin on this! And after labor with Scarlet, I asked for Chinese food. I'd do it again too!
The story of how you met Ken is so sweet.. I'd love to re-live falling in love and finding out that the other person feels the same away. That is so intense.
And meeting the kids again for sure.

  7. Great list!! I would definitely put my kids birth on my list (but not the pregnancies!) Men were a total of 15 days late with over half of that bing my oldest! My first labor was, well, laborious, but the second and third were very quick & easy! And, I would love to have a few more moments with my grandparents, too!

  11. What a great post, Rabia! I remember after each of my kids, the first thing I wanted was a shower! LOL! I think that I would love to relive the day that my current hubby and I met up again, even though we had known each other for years, we hadn't seen each other in a while. I still have to smile whenever I think about it. Have a great weekend!

  12. Ken's grandmother just passed and it was bittersweet to be in her house and peruse her things. We'll miss her, but she was ready to go.

  17. I think I would have been more nervous if I was supposed to have it memorized. In that moment, I realized I already knew what to say!

  18. There are lots of moments that sneak up on me and I wish I had one of my grandparents around to share it with. All the sewing I've been doing has brought back lots of sewing memories with both grandmothers.

  19. That job story has so many facets, I don't think I could ever adequately explain it all. Suffice it to say I am so happy where I am!!
