Regardless of reality, though, it is nice to fantasize about having extra time. And just to be generous, Lisa and I are giving you two extra hours PER DAY. All you have to do is think of ten things you'd do with that additional time.
Personally, I'd split the time in half and use an hour in the morning and one in the evening. The morning hour would come after wakeup time and before leaving the house. It would make for a more relaxing time to get ready for school and work. If I had an extra hour every morning, I'd:
- Coax the kids out of bed a little more gently.
- Do morning exercise with the whole family to instill good habits.
- Make a nice breakfast so we could all sit down to together at the table.
- Do a morning devotional together before leaving the house.
- Empty and refill the dishwasher so it can run while we're not home.
- Get dinner together in a calm fashion.
- Have some time playing or talking with the kids about their day.
- Get chores done together.
- Have a few moments to myself to read or blog.
- Be awake enough to watch TV or just talk with Ken before bed.

Introducing an element of calm to your life ... that's a lovely way to use your 'extra' hours.

Try as I might, I also can't stay in bed longer or go to bed later. I tried miserably this past weekend, but I ended up falling asleep regular time and then Sunday morning woke up normal time and stayed in bed a bit later, but still couldn't fall back to sleep no matter how hard I tried or wanted to! Definitely wish they would just leave the clocks alone.
ReplyDeleteLess chaos would be a wonderful thing! Thanks for stopping by! Headed over to check out your post now.
ReplyDeleteME TOO! I was in bed last night at 8:30 and my husband rolled his eyes at me!
ReplyDeleteSplitting up those two hours between the morning and evening would be awesome! If I could get the dishwasher unloaded in the morning, that would be a major accomplishment. :)
ReplyDeleteI try to do it while I"m packing lunches, but it never quite works out!
ReplyDeleteHere in Arizona we don't do daylight savings, but I remember how hard it was on me and the kids. I heard that Utah is voting to get rid of it. Interesting thought.
ReplyDeleteI'd be all for getting rid of it! It causes such chaos with body rhythms!
ReplyDeleteI don't think any amount of time would get dinner together in a calm fashion. I'm usually cursing, if I'm being honest. I so hate cooking. And then when I stare at all the dishes, I want to curse some more.
ReplyDeleteI actually enjoy cooking, but I don't have the time or space to do it easily very often. There's a lot of evening cursing going on at my house too.
ReplyDeleteAll of these sound good. In general, I always feel like things are so chaotic. Would another two hours do the trick? I'd love to find out!
ReplyDeleteLove that we have the same title! Great mind, right? I like the idea os splitting the hours and agree with all the things you listed!
ReplyDeleteI am writing a post involving the time change, it has been a rougher than usual week on this mama! However your post made me look at differently :-) so, thank you. I needed to read this. Thank you for also reading Clash of the Couples!
ReplyDeleteYes! Gentle coaxing in the morning. I would love to do that. Maybe an extra half hour of sleep for me and the remaining half hour would be waking the kids up and making them breakfast and not yelling, "The clock is ticking, kids! The clock is ticking."
ReplyDeleteDoh! That was the morning.
ReplyDeleteFor the night hour.. I don't even know if I should say. More time with my husband is my diplomatic answer.
UGH it's amazing how much we THINK we're getting an extra hour of sleep but never really do because of our bodies. Our kids' bodies. And 5am feels like 6am. 6am feels like 7am. 8pm feels like 9pm. Right. sorry. THAT. Gah.
ReplyDeleteIf only there were 26 hours in a day! If I had two extra hours during the day I would probably use them in the evening to catch up on the sleep that I'm missing due to the time change! I was just discussing the time change with my husband - I was telling him how it seems to take me at least a month or two to get used to it, and then it seems as if it's time to change the clocks back again! Argh!
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, I would love to have a few more hours out of the day to relax and enjoy my family, especially my kids. They grow up all too quickly. ;)
Sorry I'm late to the party - been that kind of week. I love your idea of splitting the extra time. That would work great for me as well - an hour extra before work, and an hour extra after. Would make life so much easier. Too bad this extra time is just imaginary because it sounds like all of us could really use it. :D
ReplyDeleteI love your idea and I think I would wind up doing the same thing of splitting the hours. Funny thing is the use of those extra two hours would probably be very similar to yours as well!
ReplyDeleteMornings and evenings are chaos at my house, and I don't like beginning and ending my day like that! I just need to figure out a way to slow down the earth's rotation!
ReplyDeleteI laughed out loud when I saw your post because of the title and graphics! Two peas in a pod, we are!
ReplyDeletePerspective is usually a good thing. I'm still not sold on the whole time change, but it is nice to not be driving to work in the dark!
ReplyDeleteLOL! I'm usually yelling, "Let's go! Get moving!" Occasionally, "Do you want to go to school in your pajamas!?!" Of course, they probably would!
ReplyDeleteI spend the first few days mentally calculating what time it really is versus what time it feels like. I drive myself crazy, but I can't seem to stop doing it!
ReplyDeleteThis fall time change always hits me harder that the spring one. In talking to my husband I compared it to ripping off a bandaid (spring) and peeling it off slowly (fall).
ReplyDeleteMarsha, we need to work on a way to slow down the earth's rotation. Shouldn't be that hard, right??
ReplyDeleteI just hope I wouldn't start to take those two extra hours for granted and fall back into the same chaos we have now.
ReplyDeleteI still am doing that!!! Every single day I'm like "but it's really 8..." GAH!!
