Five Minute Friday: Story
1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community...
Five minutes on story...
GO
Happy Friday! And really it is a happy Friday! The funk I was feeling last week feels very much lifted. I've had a good week at work and at home. I've gotten to spend lots of quality time with my youngest son and watched some great, free movies with my husband courtesy of Redbox.
Today is also happy because I get my big kids back! They spent the week at Grandma and Grandpa's house. Actually my daughter has been there for two weeks. I saw her briefly last weekend when I dropped Henry off.
I'll bet they both have lots of things to tell me about their week. I am hoping that they always have stories to tell me when they come home after being away. Stories about school or about camp. Maybe a story about ballet or soccer practice. Sometimes they have stories to tell others about things we did together. This week Benjamin's class has been sharing summer pictures. His teacher told me he had a great time telling his friends all about his trip to Disney World this summer.
Sometimes in life our stories converge; they come together because we are together. Then we tell our stores to others, or we tell them to each other to share a remembered laugh or to help each other mourn.
Sometimes our stories diverge. We spend time apart. Then we have the chance to reconnect and catch up. I used to be afraid of my children making stories that I wasn't involved in. I didn't like not knowing every detail of every day. But I have grown to love their individual stories as well as the ones we make together.
Have a blessed Friday, friends!

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful thing for all of you. Several of these posts today have gotten me thinking about helping my son begin to record his story. He's only 4 1/2 and already epic. :)
ReplyDeleteMy children are with their grandparents this week on vacation. I'm not "off" though because my boyfriend's three are visiting and I offered to watch them.
ReplyDeleteI love your take on this prompt. I'm a people person, and one of my favorite things is friendship...going deep and loving big and taking that time to heart-connect. But with all friendships, sometimes there is time apart...and there is nothing sweeter than when those moments bring us back together and our stories join again. Beautiful post...so glad you had a great week! Blessings and happy weekend to you! :)
ReplyDeleteI love your line about stories of our lives converging. Those are the best kind!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad your funk has lifted. And I love this theme and I love your spin on it, as always. So many beautiful and overlapping and diverging stories of our lives.
ReplyDeleteSo glad this week was better! Hope you all have a happy reunion :)
ReplyDeleteI love what you said about enjoying the stories your children make on their own as well as the ones you make together - that's such a great analogy for family as life goes on and kids grow up and start their own families.
