Truth be told, I would generally describe myself as lazy. You know how an object in motion tends to stay in motion and an object at rest tends to stay at rest (unless acted upon by an outside force, blah, blah, blah, physics)? Well, I tend to stay at rest. And I haven't found a good outside force to act upon me yet.
Until now!!! I have figured out a way to turn laziness into my motivation! Here's how:
If I do the dishes every night before bed there are certain benefits that make less work for me later.
- Kids can unload 50% of the dishwasher by setting the table for dinner. It's getting two jobs done for the
pricenagging of one! - If I finish unloading the dishwasher before dinner, we can all put our dishes straight in there after we're done with dinner; bypassing the sink, and the mess that occurs there, completely! And they are doing the work instead of me!
- If I wash pots and pans after dinner each night, I only have to wash the insides. If I stack them in the sink the bottoms get dirty too, thereby doubling my job.
- Keeping things clean and at the ready means we need fewer of them. If the dinner plates are available on a regular basis, we won't have to use the giganto plates that don't fit in the dishwasher well.
- Having the dishwasher available as a receptacle for dirty dishes means less of a mess on the counter while cooking. I can put things directly in instead of piling them around and making more messes that will need to be cleaned.
- The longer dishes sit in the sink, the harder they become to clean. I'm looking at you: bowl of dried on grits!! When dishes have sat in the sink it frequently becomes necessary for them to be hand-washed with lots of elbow grease in order to remove dried on food bits.
What motivates you to keep things clean?
