On Monday, I was exhausted. Not a good way to start things out. But we all got up and got going early enough to walk with Frances to school. After we dropped her off, Ken headed to work and the boys and I went to the little playground near Frances' school. It is a small playground and I didn't expect any other families to be there. There weren't any families there at all, but there were two little girls there, ages two and three. All by themselves. They lived in some of the townhouses that back up to the playground and I am pretty sure that it was their mother (or caregiver) I heard yelling from the back door, but COME ON! Did she really send a two and three year old out to play by themselves? Was I supposed to watch them? Or ignore them if things got dangerous? I mean, geez, I feel like a bad parent when I bring a book to read on the playground or check my phone while I'm there, but these girls were completely shoeless and alone. It only takes a minute to wander off, fall from the top of a slide or climb into the back of a van to help a man "go look for his puppy." What are people thinking??
We headed home to get some work done and have some food. I managed to get some clothes sorted out of the kids' drawers and taken to the consignment store and visited Henry's new favorite bank, where the teller gave Henry a sucker IN EVERY COLOR!
We also went to Kroger to buy supplies for making Frances' teacher some Oreo balls as a thank you gift for
So it wasn't a great start to the summer, but it was a start and we've got a lot more days to go!
