Frances update

Frances finished her first week of Kindergarten on Friday. SHE LOVES IT! She has all kinds of stories at the end of the day and thinks she is a huge deal now because she is in Kindergarten! She comes to the day care after school, so she still gets to see some of her old friends. On Tuesday when she came in, she went down to the three-year-old class and said, "I'm here now Ms. Ariel. If you need me to take any kids to the bathroom, I can help you out." HAHA She thinks she is hot stuff! She comes into my classroom in the afternoons and says, "Okay, boys and girls. Do you want to learn something?"

She loves her teacher, Mrs. Luden. There are things that I have already taught her or tried to teach her (like coughing into her elbow) that she has never paid attention to, but when Mrs. Luden says it, it's gospel.

She loves riding the bus in the morning. I even let her walk to her bus stop by herself (It is a block away and I followed her in the car.) and she loved it. Henry cries whenever he sees her get on the bus from a combination of wanting to get on the bus himself and from missing his sissy. He's so pitiful. When he sees her come into the daycare in the afternoons he starts asking for her so he can give her a hug. They love each other so much! How did I get so lucky?!
As a side note, Frances has her first loose tooth. It is on the bottom, directly right of center. She wants to eat an apple so it can come out. It's not that loose, but it won't be long.
My little girl is growing up so fast!

Overheard

ME: Come on guys! It's time for lunch!
FJ: Lunch!? We can't have lunch! We're still in our pajamas! aahahhahaahahaahah!

'Twas the Day Before Kindergarten

(My apologies to Clement Moore.)

'Twas the day before Kindergarten
And all through my house
Both my children were stirring
But there'd better not be any mouse!

The supplies had been purchased
And taken to school
New crayons and glue sticks
The Princess backpack was cool!

Frances was excited
And giddy, for sure
Tomorrow will be
A big day for her

Mommy and Daddy
Seem excited too
But nervous and anxious
About something so new.

We'll lay out the clothes
Before we go to bed
And take a good bath
For a squeaky clean head

In the morning, it's breakfast
And rushing to dress
Our fingers are crossed
Her hair won't be a mess!

We'll take the whole family
We'll walk up the street
She'll get on that big bus
She thinks is so neat

I'll probably follow
Like a humongous dork
To watch her get off it
'Fore I go to work

She'll walk in that big school
By herself, All alone
She'll take my heart with her
My big girl, my own.

She'll go to her classroom
She'll make lots of friends
And I'll be there to meet her
When her day ends

I'll hear all the stories
'Bout lunch and her class
I'll ask lots of questions
Of my sweet little Lass

I pray God's protection
Around her all day
That He will be with her
Since I can't be today

The tears will start flowing
I'll cry like a fool
'Cause my sweet little baby
Has gone off to school

Lunch

Frances is getting ready to start Kindergarten and she is pretty excited. Tonight we started practicing her lunch number. I made a little keypad for her with the numbers on it and then we made up a little song to go along with it. Believe it or not, she sang it by herself before she went to bed tonight. What a big girl!! *sniff*

A fun change of plans

Last night was the first Friday of the month, and usually the Children's Museum is open for free. I had told the kids that we would go and visit the museum if they had a good day at school. Of course, they both had an awesome day and even managed to stay clean all day long (which is not usually the case when I have plans after school). I got home packed up a snack/dinner and picked up Ken. We headed down to the museum and even commented on how empty the parking lot was...
Yeah, it was closed! Still not sure why, but we weren't the only people who wondered what was going on. Then we looked across the street and saw Mr. Mike (of Gus Bus "fame") and his drumming circle. There were about 10 people sitting in a circle playing a cool beat on different types on drums. We went over to say hi and got invited to join in. Mike had lots of other rhythm instruments set out for people to try. The kids had fun trying out different instruments. There were maracas, rain sticks, egg shakers, and these cute little frog-shaped instruments. They have ridges along their backs and when you rub a stick down them, they sound like a frog croaking! Definitely my favorite.
When the drum circle ended, we walked around downtown for a little while and then headed home. It wasn't the evening we had planned, but it was fun!

Blog Hop: Encouragement

Psalm 118:24 "This is the day the Lord has made, Let us rejoice and be glad in it!"

My mom sang this verse when I was born. It became a special verse for us. Then I used it at my wedding. And then I sang it to both of my children when they were born. Some days it is easier to remember than others, but God made every day. And He has a plan for each one of us on each of the days that he gives us. Some days it is easier to rejoice than others, but I try to always keep in mind that each day He gives us is a special gift to us and to those around us.
What can you find to rejoice in on this day?
