10 Great Christmas Movies

Christmas movies are awesome!  And this time of year when the weather is cold and icy, and kids are out of school (or almost out of school) is a great time to cuddle on the couch for family movie time. For today's 10 on Tuesday list I have compiled 10 Great Christmas Movies.  Or I'm assuming they are all great.  I haven't seen half of them.  I know!! Sorry!  The first five on this list are movies I have seen repeatedly, the last five are movies I have never seen.  Please be gentle, most people are appalled when they hear I have never watched some of these classics.

1.  The Grinch Whole Stole Christmas: Classic, classic, classic.  Of course, I am speaking of the original animated version.  I haven't seen the live action version and I don't plan on it.  The animated version is narrated by Boris Karloff which automatically makes it a winner. It also has Dr. Seuss' lyrical style and heartwarming and heart-growing story of a "Bah Humbug" who turns into a "Fa La La La La."
  

2.  The Polar Express: I mentioned this last week on my book list, but the movie is equally awesome.  I've watched it in the summer during a kids' movie festival and we all shivered because we got so into the moment that we got cold from seeing all the snow.  The roller coaster scene with the train will make your stomach drop (in a good way, in my opinion) and you will renew your belief in the magic of Christmas.


3.  A Charlie Brown Christmas: Our family had the soundtrack to this movie on an actual record album.  We used to listen to it all the time.  I can call up the sound of the piano music so easily in my head.  This movie brings us an epic Snoopy dance and another reminder of the true meaning of the season. And don't tell my priest, but whenever I hear the nativity reading at Mass, I hear it in Linus's voice.


4.  A Muppet Christmas Carol: It's the muppets.  Do I need to explain it further?  Jim Henson's  muppets put together their own version of Charles Dickens' epic tale of a man (in this case, muppet) who get a good hefty dose of perspective.


5.  A Christmas Story: "You'll shoot your eye out!"  I throw this line out frequently to my kids.  They look at me like I'm crazy.  I'm not saying they are wrong, but they just haven't seen this movie enough to understand why that line is so funny!  I'm not really sure you would need to click this particular link, since we all know that at least one TV station will run this movie for 24 hours straight pretty close to Christmas.



6.  It's a Wonderful Life: First of the list of movies I haven't seen.  I have seen parts of it, and recognize quotes from it, but I've never sat down and watched it all the way through.  I'm adding it to my list of things to do over my upcoming break.


7.  Miracle on 34th Street: It's set it New York.  It has a darling little girl. There's a miracle that happens.  Other than that, don't ask me.  Another one I should probably watch soon.


8.  White Christmas: Again...never seen it.  I'm not positive what it's about.  But it comes up on all kinds of lists of quintessential Christmas movies.  Convince me in the comments, and I'll add this to my "to watch" list.



9.  Elf: Quotes and memes from this movie are all over the internet.  I could probably quote the whole movie even though I've never see it!  I'm not purposely avoiding it, I just haven't made the effort to watch it.  Maybe all the memes will be more funny after I watch it.  Maybe not?


10. Die Hard: The rest of this list is relatively kid friendly. This one is NOT! Please do not use this list to sit down for one big, long Christmas movie fest.  Unless this is the one you watch after the kids   have gone to bed.  I'm honestly not sure why it's a Christmas movie, but my brothers insisted that I include it.  And I always listen to my brothers!
