Had a Meltdown? You're Not Alone!

Back when I taught preschool, I had a class that was almost all girls. We had some great moments. I was never wanting for someone to fix my hair and we did a lot of dressing up and drinking "tea." I got lots of hugs and snuggles from a lot of really sweet girls.  And then there were the other moments. I was astonished at how catty four year olds can be!  We had a lot of tantrums and crying and hurt feelings and "I'm not your best friend!" stuff.  Some infractions had week-long repercussions! That part wore me out!

Having an older sister can sometimes limit your dress up options.  We've branched out since this!
Then, the next year, my class was almost all boys!  We also had some great moments. There were lots of big buildings and loud, funny noises.  We built with blocks and Legos and I learned more about construction equipment than I ever though possible (that has come in rather handy...) The "other" moments weren't all that bad really.  When they boys got mad at each other, they would just hit someone or throw something. We'd have a few tears and and a few mean looks and they'd we'd all be over it.  They'd go right back to playing with each other.

This difference between boys and girls seems to carry on into adulthood. In a lot of cases, women have the long, drawn out drama, while the men explode once and get over it.  I'm not a scientist, nor do I play one on my blog, so I am not going to speculate which is better or healthier or any of those things.  However, I will admit to mostly being like a girl when I get upset.  I cry and vent and carry on for about a week and then quietly let it go.  Except when I don't.

There have been a few times when the situation just got away from me and I had a total scream and yell and throw things kind of reaction to a problem.  I recently found out that I'm not in bad company! In fact I am in the company of 29 other wonderful women; mothers, wives, and bloggers. And we've written a book about it!

The Mother of all Meltdowns is a collection of stories from 30 awesome women (or 29 awesome women and me...) about the time when it all got to be too much and a complete and total meltdown was necessary. We've been working on this collection since the Spring, and I am so excited to see it come to fruition.  Soon!  Bookmark our webpage and follow us on facebook or Twitter so you can be the first one on your block to get your own copy!

I've read the advanced copy and had to nod along on every page. It made me feel so much more normal!!  Well, as close to normal as I can get.  This books is real. It is honest. It is funny. It is an honor to be a part of.  I hope you'll check it out.  And while you're waiting to buy your copy, you can share your own meltdown story in the comments.
